Camelthorn (Acacia erioloba) - Kameeldoring
The camelthorn tree is a slow-growing tree and a protected species. Harvesting of live trees is not allowed and legal permits need to be in place for the transportation of this wood.
Camelthorn wood has a density of 936kg/m3 and is considered an iron wood. This species flourishes in in deep sandy soils, produce bright yellow round flowers and ear-lobe shaped seed pods are borne from late winter.
The camelthorn wood is excellent for firewood, producing long lasting coals and a musky or cinnamon smell when burnt.
